Frequently Asked Questions

  • People engage with the FUEL model in different ways depending on what they are looking for:

    • If you want to explore the ideas independently, the book is a good place to start.

    • Coaching sessions offer a reflective space to apply the ideas to your own professional life - and to your personal life.

    • Training programmes are designed for professionals who want to use the FUEL model in their work - by providing presentations, as well as with team members, colleagues and clients.

    • Retreats provide time away from everyday pressures to reflect, restore energy and enthusiasm, and explore the model in a more immersive way.

  • The book introduces the FUEL model and the thinking behind it, but coaching sessions, training programmes, and retreats are all designed to stand alone, so that you can engage with the model whether or not you have read the book.

  • Many people engaging in this work are experienced professionals in all sectors - often in corporate, health, legal, financial, and educational fields - who care deeply about their work but are navigating high demands, leadership responsibilities, or periods of ongoing pressure. They are looking for evidence-based ways to strengthen sustainable resilience and regain clarity, purpose, and wellbeing.

  • Coaching psychology sessions with me provide a structured and reflective space to explore challenges, strengthen resilience, and think clearly about professional or personal situations. The conversations draw on psychological insight and practical strategies, helping you develop practical, sustainable ways of responding to pressure and complexity.

  • The training provides a deeper understanding of the FUEL model and how it can be applied in professional settings. Participants learn practical ways to deliver FUEL training for individuals and groups.

On completion of the course, trainees receive a full slide deck containing all the material needed to deliver both short presentations and full training days to a wide range of audiences. This enables certified trainers to begin sharing the FUEL model within their own organisations or professional practice.

You will also receive a CPD certificate for successful completion of 12 hours of CPD accredited by the International Society for Coaching Psychology (ISCP).

Included in the annual licence are six supervision and Q&A sessions held every two months, providing you with ongoing support, opportunities to discuss how you are applying the model in practice, and the chance to connect with a growing community of FUEL trainers.

  • Yes. Experienced practitioners often value the FUEL model because it provides a clear, structured framework, it's evidence-based, it integrates resilience science with coaching psychology, and includes practical tools for helping clients to understand and develop resilience. The training is designed to deepen, extend and enhance your existing professional approach.

  • Yes - the FUEL model provides a practical and versatile framework that people can adapt to their own strengths and circumstances. Neurodivergent individuals may engage with the elements in a variety of ways that suit them best.

For some people, particularly those who value predictability and routine, flexibility (the “F” in FUEL) may involve developing options, and recognising which environments, support, and routines enable them to function well. The other elements of the model - using helpful resources, protecting and renewing energy, and recognising where influence and control are located - can also strengthen and sustain resilience in ways that fit each person.

  • The retreats offer time and space to step back from everyday demands and reconnect with what supports and sustains resilience. They combine reflection, relaxation, and time to recharge in a supportive and restorative environment, allowing participants to explore the FUEL model in a deeper and more experiential way.

The programme also includes time for rest, informal conversation, and enjoying the surroundings.

  • Retreat participants can choose to include 12 hours of accredited CPD by completing the Certified FUEL Your Resilience Trainer and Facilitator Programme as part of their retreat experience. This provides an opportunity to combine time for restoration and reflection with meaningful professional development.

  • Yes. The model can be applied in leadership development, coaching, and organisational wellbeing initiatives. The FUEL Your Resilience Facilitator training programme provides guidance on how to introduce and apply the framework in professional settings.
